Activities
FOTO ARSENAL WIEN is an open site for experiencing, understanding, and grasping all aspects of the medium of photography.
What is it that makes pictures so magically alluring? How do we consume them? What do they show us? Who produces them, and who makes information about them available? How do we take a position on pictures, and how do they influence our view of the world?
In addition to exhibitions, publications, and themed events, the ACTIVITIES program is a cornerstone of FOTO ARSENAL WIEN’s mission to promote art education and literacy in visual media. We are constantly developing and refining our programs with our target groups—children, teenagers, and their guardians; clubs and schools; and students at Austrian universities.
Creativity and discourse: Our offerings include many different ways of understanding, analyzing, and actively interacting with the growing volume of images and the quickly changing world of media. Using a playful approach, we explore analog and digital image forms as well as ways of looking at images. In programs that are tailored to our current exhibitions, we actively explore the subject matter at hand and offer formats for all age groups and various target audiences.

Barrier-Free Access
FOTO ARSENAL WIEN is a center for everyone. That is why we focus on offerings that are inclusive. We support barrier-free participation in cultural life for people with and without disabilities, and we would like to offer a cultural program that is suited to the most varied target groups. We ensure unrestricted access to the subject matter of exhibitions, to our site, and to participation in exchanges for all visitors by offering tours in Austrian sign language, tours in simple language, and collaborative projects with various clubs and initiatives.
FOTO ARSENAL WIEN is a meeting place. We promote interaction by inviting people with different backgrounds and from different parts of society to engage in dialogue. One focus of our work is cooperating with socially marginalized groups, including children and teenagers with limited opportunities for social participation. These target groups often have no access to art, and we aim to break down the barriers that are associated with this. If you would like to learn more about our barrier-free offerings, book a tour, or implement a project with us, please contact us!
For Children and Families
Children and teenagers today have early exposure to photography. Not only are they constantly being photographed and shown pictures by their parents; they also use social media and play online games in visual worlds whose aesthetics are based on photography. This is also where our formats start:
For Young People
Embark on an expedition to the world of photography and learn about contemporary approaches to the visual worlds of yesterday and today.
For Adults
The program consists of exhibition tours that encourage you to actively explore the works and the exhibition subject matter as well as workshops and other offerings, including:
Curator tours
Artist talks
Exhibition tours with an Austrian sign language interpreter
POV dialogue tours
Book talks
Art & aperitif
Desserts (selected lunch-hour works)
Details and dates are listed in the events calendar.
For Groups
We also offer exhibition tours and workshops for groups. Please contact us if you have an idea for a tour or a workshop that you would like to implement!
Fee: 80 euros for tour, plus 5 euros per person
For School Children and Teachers
The program for school classes and groups at FOTO ARSENAL WIEN capitalizes on inspiration, creativity, and critical media reflection. It focuses equally on analog and digital photography, the analysis of pictures, and artistic expressiveness.
