We offer a hands-on program that will be linked to the exhibition visit, during which the children will explore the approaches used by the photographers.
Magnum: A World of Photography
FOTO ARSENAL WIEN’s inaugural exhibition at the Arsenal is dedicated to Magnum, the most famous and influential photo agency in the world.
The exhibition explores strategies of distribution and archiving using the example of Magnum. The show gives fascinating insight into the world of photography and contemporary art. It examines undiscovered and otherwise secret working processes from contact sheets to vintage prints and darkroom work.
Questions that we consider during our exhibition tour include: How does a picture become famous all over the world? Of all the photographs that are taken, why are certain ones published and later deposited in archives?
These questions will be considered on our short tour of the exhibition.
Afterward, the school children will have their first experiences with the processes of analog photography in the newly installed darkroom of FOTO ARSENAL WIEN and witness the individual steps of the work. In this way, they vividly experience how the pictures they had just seen were made, giving them insight into the processes of photography.
The children are invited to make a print in the darkroom. The children will also work with digital tools, AI, and image descriptions.
